Profound Lore Announces New Record & NEW SONG

A STORM OF LIGHT – Complete Work On New Album
Apocalyptic metal band A STORM OF LIGHT have completed work on their new album, entitled “As The Valley Of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade”.

Formed by multi-faced artist/musician Josh Graham (Neurosis, ex-Red Sparowes/Battle Of Mice), A STORM OF LIGHT have become a whole new musical entity on its own merits, taking singer/guitarist Graham’s experiences from his previous musical repertoire and finding its own unique voice through the vessel known as A STORM OF LIGHT.

With their third album at hand, not only is “As The Valley Of Death…” A STORM OF LIGHT’s heaviest and most dynamic release to date, but it is also A STORM OF LIGHT’s most song-oriented and most musically inclined release to date. While still maintaining certain elements referenced from their previous two releases, elements which ranged from moments of sludge/doom metal, ambient experimental, classic industrial, and post rock and metal respectively, “As The Valley Of Death…” sees the band (rounded out by bassist Domenic Seita, drummer Billy Graves, and Joel Hamilton on synthesizers and production) focusing more on solid traditional song structures and foundations, ones found in genres such as rock (AC/DC), modern-day rock (Queens Of The Stone Age), and ultimately classic traditional metal, most notably the template laid down by Metallica.

And to top it all off, “As The Valley Of Death…” sees a fair share of musician guest appearances likewise. Most notably SOUNDGARDEN guitarist Kim Thayil lending his signature guitar shredding on the tracks ‘Missing’ and ‘Black Wolves’.

Also appearing on “As The Valley Of Death…” are Jarboe (ex-Swans), longtime ASOL collaborator Nerissa Campbell, Kris Force (Amber Asylum), Matthias Bossi (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/The Book Of Knots), and Carla Kihlstedt (also of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/The Book Of Knots).

To be released on May 17th and the 23th (in North America and the UK respectively, Burning World Records will handle the rest of Europe), tracklisting for “As The Valley Of Death…” goes as follows:

01. Missing (feat Kim Thayil and Nerissa Campbell)
02. Collapse(feat Jarboe)
03. Black Wolves (feat Kim Thayil and Nerissa Campbell)
04. Destroyer (feat Carla Kihlstedt)
05. Wretched Valley
06. Silver
07. Leave No Wounds
08. Death’s Head (feat Jarboe)
09. Wasteland (feat Kris Force, Matthias Bossi, and Nerissa Campbell)

An MP3 of the track ‘Collapse’ has now been posted in our MP3 section HERE

A STORM OF LIGHT: New York Metal Alchemists Unveil Album Details + Video Teaser

New York metal alchemists, A STORM OF LIGHT, will unleash their long-anticipated new studio offering this Fall! Entitled Nations To Flames, the 11-track follow up to the band’s critically-lauded 2011 opus, As The Valley Of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade, was recorded with Travis Kammeyer (OCOAI, Generation Of Vipers) at Fahrenheit Studios in Johnson City, Tennessee, mixed with Matt Bayles (Isis, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Botch, Mastodon) at Red Room Recording in Seattle, Washington and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails) at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, Nations to Flames features Soundgraden’s Kim Thayil and Indian/Nachtmystium’s Will Lindsay on select tracks.

Centered around the apex of human failure, Nations To Flames bears witness to the fall of all governments, all nations, and all religions. The record is both musically and thematically captivating and marks the STORMcollective’s darkest, most immediately punishing creation to date.

Comments A STORM OF LIGHT founding guitarist/vocalist Josh Graham “These songs are much more focused. Even the more ‘epic’ songs are shorter but still accomplish the same journey as the longer songs used to. We’ve ditched the rock elements of the last record and let our early influences of Killing Joke, Bad Brains, Metallica and Crash Worship seep in. We are bringing back the intensity of Black Ocean but with the speed and precision ore akin to our metal influences. While there are still some slower/sludgy tunes, some songs are twice as fast as the older material.”

Nations To Flames Track Listing:

1. Fall

2. Apostles Of Hatred

3. The Fire Sermon

4. Omen

5. Dead Flags

6. All the Shining Lies

7. Disintegrate

8. Lifeless

9. Soothsayer

10. You Are The Hunted

11. The Year Is One

Nations To Flames will be released in the US via Southern Lord Recordings on September 17, 2013.

Further details, including tour plans, to be unveiled in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out the striking Graham-created Nations to Flames cover art at THIS LOCATION and a teaser video HERE!

As the Valley of Death Becomes Us

Hi All,

We have a lot of news for our next record, tentatively titled: As the Valley of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade.
First, recording begins on January 25th with Joel Hamilton at Studio G in Brooklyn, NY. The record consists of ten
songs, with a lot of variety on the album. Words that come to mind are, shorter, faster, heavier, catchier. There are
also some very cool guests in the works. Keep checking back for more details.
Next, we are switching things up a bit with this release. Profound Lore will be putting out the North American and UK versions
of the CD, while Burning World Records (run by the infamous Roadburn Festival curators Jurgen and Walter) will be putting
out the European CD, and the worldwide Double LP.
We’re looking at a May 2011 release, and will let you know specifics soon.
Finally, some of the album’s artwork will be revealed at the end of January…it’s going to be pretty intense this time around, pushing some boundaries.
More soon.
